THE BRIGGS and JOHNSON FAMILIES

******************************* THE BRIGGS FAMILY *********************************

COVER PAGE: THE EARLY BRIGGS (1894)

(Julie Johnson Clock’s side of our family) Much of the material in this posting for the Briggs and Johnson families was originally assembled and printed into a 3 ring notebook format, titled “The Briggs” by Mary Briggs of Tigard, OR, in 2002. Her husband Todd (Charles actually) is Evelyn Briggs Johnson’s younger brother ….and so he is Julie Johnson Clock’s uncle and Mary is obviously her aunt. Julie is married to Barry Clock.

The people in this photo are Julie’s ancestors, on her mother’s side of the family. Whew!

THE EARLY BRIGGS OF NEW YORK & ILLINOIS ….1800’s. (Julie’s great great grandparents) Their names are classic! Hers was Thankful Ann Briggs. Thankful!! Really! And his was Korah …a name from The Bible (we looked it up). A name that I’ve never heard heard before …and I thought I’d heard ’em all.

The first Briggs’ came to the 13 colonies about 1700. John Briggs was the last of the line to be born in Britain. After him, all of his descendants were born in America.

THE OLD BRIGGS FARMHOUSE TODAY. (1999) Sheyenne, North Dakota. Where Evelyn Briggs Johnson (Julie Johnson Clock’s mother) grew up in the 1930’s and 1940’s. The Sheyenne River runs across the property …the source of many of Evelyn’s childhood stories. Now it sits abandoned, part of a much larger farm operation. The Briggs family moved into town in the early 1950’s.

GRANDMA EVELYN’S GRANDKIDS

When I met Julie, her family was living in Vaughn Street in Portland, OR. Then Evelyn lived in Milwaukie for a short while, before moving to Orchards, WA (near Vancouver). Her kids all had 2 children: Mick & Penny, Julie & Barry, Dona & Perry, Kathy & Dave. So she had 8 grandkids, 7 girls and one boy. Here are some of them.
